WE IMPROVED "A CURSED BLESSING" PODCAST'S BRAND THROUGH RETRO-THEMED BRANDING, STRATEGIC MARKETING, AND ENGAGING NEWSLETTERS. WITNESS HOW WE TURNED THEIR PASSION INTO A THRIVING BUSINESS!
A Cursed Blessing is a game ethics podcast where game lovers discuss moral dilemmas in the game community with a fun twist. The name sprung from the conflict that develops when you have friends to play games with (blessing!) but they are really bad losers (curse!).
The founders wanted a more professional touch from the get go in order to be perceived as an entertainment channel that wasn’t just another hobby project, but hobbyists running a business. They wanted to increase trust and reach for the podcast and brand early on.
The Cursed Blessing Team asked for a retro vibe with a lot of nerdy and fun references since the geeks who’d understand them would appreciate them. We therefore put some effort into not just the visuals, but the communication of the brand using language like:
“Hello there” (Famous quote from Obi-wan Kenobi in Starwars)
“Merchant corner” (As opposed to “webshop” in the menu)
“Backstory” (as a common game reference instead of an “About us” section)
“Send us a love letter” (a reference to the board game “Love Letter”)
..and much more.
The branding was created with a modern retro aesthetic containing a primary pixel font and a website in block format. We designed game pieces and elements to complement the overall branding with checker patterns and board game squares.
The imagery is focused on snacks, game tables and hanging out with friends for a good time and the presentation of information is often done in a playful way, through a playing card design or game board rules format.
Since making the branding and website, the Podcast Team continued working with us for building their webshop for merchandise, designing said merchandise and continuous content creation through their newsletter where we do the graphic design, copywriting, research and strategy.
